The ramparts of the Croix-Rousse
On the boulevard de la Croix-Rousse, there were once ramparts that separated Lyon from a neighboring village. In 1840, a soldier on duty met four times a white lady, carrying successively a cup of water, a torch, a bread and a sword. She predicted plagues for the city: floods, plague, famine and war. A few months later, the Rhone and the Saone overflowed, but the other misfortunes did not happen. The white lady would be the ghost of the goddess Cybele, whose altar was discovered not far from there.
The Château Perrache
This castle, located near the Lyon-Perrache train station, was requisitioned by the Gestapo during the Second World War. The sinister Klaus Barbie inflicted torture and executions on many resistance fighters. Since then, strange phenomena occur in this hotel: scratching in the walls, sensations of pulling on the sheets, apparitions of silhouettes or shadows. Some customers claim to have seen the ghosts of the victims of Nazi barbarism.
The Museum of Fine Arts
This museum, housed in a former convent, hides a sordid story. In the 16th century, the nuns who lived there had light morals and turned the place into a real brothel. The king drove out most of them and replaced them by Benedictines. One of the excluded, Alix de Tézieux, died in misery. Her spirit still haunts the museum, where she appears in the form of a nun in black, crying and moaning. She even pushed a guard down the stairs.
The underground lake of Fourvière
Under the hill of Fourvière, there is an underground lake, accessible by a trap located in the park of the Heights. This lake was dug in the 19th century to supply water to the cannons of the fort of Loyasse. It measures 72 meters long, 25 meters wide and 10 meters deep. It is plunged into total darkness and its water is icy. It is forbidden to access it, but some curious have tried the adventure. They reported hearing voices, noises of chains or screams. Some even saw spectral forms emerge from the water.
The church of Saint-Bruno des Chartreux
This church, located in the district of the Croix-Rousse, is the only baroque church in Lyon. It was built in the 17th century to accommodate the Carthusian monks. It houses many works of art, but also macabre secrets. Under the choir, there is a crypt where the monks are buried. It is accessed by a hidden door, behind a painting. The crypt is closed to the public, but some have managed to enter it. They discovered open coffins, bones and skulls. They also felt an oppressive and frightening atmosphere, as if the dead did not appreciate their visit.
