American researcher Jesse Michels, known for his podcast on unexplained phenomena, recently stated that he traveled to Peru to closely examine the so-called “three-fingered mummies” discovered near Nazca. These remains, presented by some as evidence of extraterrestrial life, continue to fuel controversy.
Michels remains cautious: he says he found no clear indication that the mummies are alien in origin. However, he suggests an alternative hypothesis. According to him, the mummies could represent “a previously unknown subterranean species.” This idea is based on the work of a bioinformatics expert who analyzed publicly available DNA samples from some of the remains. The results revealed a genetic mutation associated with ectrodactyly, a congenital condition that causes deformities of fingers and toes.
A commonly cited example is a community in northern Zimbabwe, where many inhabitants are born with what is known as “ostrich foot syndrome”: their feet have only two large toes, forming a V-shaped structure.
To further investigate, Jesse Michels is working with Colossal Biosciences, a biotechnology company best known for its ambitious projects to bring back extinct species such as the Tasmanian tiger, the woolly mammoth, and the dodo. The firm plans to conduct deeper genetic studies on additional samples from the Nazca mummies.
Skeptics, however, point out that previous investigations concluded these “creatures” are little more than dolls assembled from human and animal remains. Yet if Colossal were to confirm a unique genetic heritage — or even attempt to revive such beings — the debate surrounding the three-fingered mummies could enter uncharted territory, evoking a real-life “Jurassic Park.”
