Russia and Iran resume their military cooperation

On the 20th January 2015, the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran signed a military cooperation agreement. It plans for « exercises in common, cooperation for the maintenance of peace, regional and international cooperation for security and stability, and the struggle against separatism and extremism ».

The Iranian minister for Defence, Hossein Dehqan, specified that both countries have « shared their analysis of the US strategy of domination, US interference at the regional and international level, and the need for cooperation in the fight against foreign intervention in the region. »

We have no information about the current litigation concerning the S-300’s. In 2010, President Medvedev had cancelled the delivery of these missiles to Iran, claiming that they violated the UNO embargo. Teheran, who had spent 800 million dollars, asked for 4 billion dollars of forfeit payments.
